Holidays are interesting around here. I'm not really sure baby girls understands yet, which is totally fine, she's only 2, after all, and she sure does love the festivities regardless of not being superfond of mall Santa. J loves all things holiday, although the concept of Santa coming down the chimney and the magic of the holidays doesn't usually click. He enjoys Santa and all the presents nonetheless, and generally enjoys going to see mall Santa as long as we have a script for him (i.e. Santa says "What's your name?" My name is Jake. "What do you want for Christmas, Jake?" Golf Clubs. Now, once that script is deviated from and Santa gets fancy, things get a little dicey). We did manage to get a decent family picture with Santa, the boy smiling and the girl struggling to get away from me. It was worth it!
We had fun opening presents and playing with them, but Christmas can be so strangely anticlimactic. I think next year will be more exciting, as baby girl will hopefully understand Elf on the Shelf, and J will play along as well. I've started to wonder if maybe they have/get too much? This is a good problem to have, but they just don't seem to be as impressed by gifts as much as I remember being growing up. Maybe they are just too young to be super excited?
Unfortunately, a few days after Christmas, J woke up crying in the middle of the night (something he pretty much never does) and we have been fighting a fever and pitifulness for the last few days. You know the kid is sick when he won't even ask for or play iPad. He seems to be on the mend, and I bought out half of the children's med section at Walgreens, so we are prepared for any sort of apocalyptic sickness should it occur over the next few weeks. If Kevin and I could just go ahead and catch the germs over the weekend and be on the path to wellness by Monday morning, that would be great. It would be even better if it could just skip right over baby girl all together. I'm not sure we are that lucky, but a girl can dream!
This post is pretty boring, hopefully I will step up my game as 2014 progresses!
Hope everyone had a great Christmas and wishing you a healthy and happy 2014!
